Through four decades of service we have fulfilled our founders’ vision of becoming one of the finest law firms in the state of Oklahoma.

Our History

Prior to the formation of Hartzog Conger Cason, Larry Hartzog was an experienced Oklahoma City attorney with nationally recognized corporate, transactional and securities law skills. Yet personal success and recognition could not satisfy his true ambition: to create a firm that might one day become one of the finest in the state.

Through summer internships, Larry met and mentored Bill Conger and Len Cason, who went on to become successful lawyers at renowned firms in Oklahoma City and Dallas, respectively. After practicing apart for several years, Bill and Len reunited with Larry to pursue their shared vision of founding a uniquely excellent, highly respected law firm. On April 1, 1979, they formed Hartzog Conger & Cason.

From the outset, the firm sought to recruit prospective attorneys with the most impressive academic credentials and the strongest commitment to excellence, service and creativity – pillars that remain the firm’s hallmark today.

In 2000, after several years of discussion and collaboration, a group of veteran lawyers joined the firm. The expansion bolstered Hartzog Conger Cason’s existing litigation practice, providing additional expertise and depth to the firm’s already-reputable tax, estate planning, business, corporate, and mergers-and-acquisitions practices.

Hartzog Conger Cason remains committed to employing exceptional, innovative lawyers who strive to meet the needs and objectives of their clients. In addition to the outstanding lawyers who have remained at the firm, prominent alumni have excelled in other areas of service, including as president of a state university, dean of a law school, a federal magistrate judge, chairman and CEO of a large publicly traded company, and mayor and state cabinet secretary. The firm also has produced numerous law school professors and in-house counsels to large companies.

Although Len is the only remaining named partner, the original vision and legacy of the firm’s namesakes live on as the foundation on which the firm operates today. After Bill passed away in 2013, the firm memorialized him through its creation and sponsorship of the J. William Conger Courtroom at the Oklahoma City University School of Law in downtown Oklahoma City. A portrait of Larry, who followed Bill in 2014, hangs in the Great Hall of the firm’s offices.

We believe the dedication and commitment our firm has demonstrated through 40 years of service has fulfilled our founders’ vision to become one of the finest law firms in the state of Oklahoma. The same ambition and devotion to excellence that brought Larry, Len and Bill together 40 years ago flourishes today through the outstanding lawyers at Hartzog Conger Cason.
